Great Barrier Reef storm damage severe but patchy

The powerful cyclone Yasi severely damaged Australia's famed Great Barrier Reef last month. One point of relief is that the damage is patchy.
In this incident, centuries-old coral was destroyed. Recovery is possible but it may take decades. Great Barrier Reef Marine Authority (GBRMPA) and Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service carried out the Assessment. Australia has about 2,400 km-long reef that are flocked by tourist and which gets billions of dollars to Australia's economy annually.
The reef is a great place to visit. It's amazing. If you've been to the reef, you know what I'm talking about. If you haven't visited yet, try next time.
